Conventional vehicle armor and blast resistant materials are very expensive because they are made of very expensive high performance Kevlar or Spectra fibers. The high cost of these armor and blast materials restrict their applications into many military or civilian markets. Only high value fighting vehicles and military aircrafts are currently protected by these expensive lightweight armors.
Frontier has utilized its strength in advanced polymer materials and has developed a low cost ballistic resistant material technology using an innovative material approach to allow the ballistic or blast energy to be dissipated and eventually absorbed. Recently, Frontier has demonstrated that it lightweight armor panel can stop multiple 9mm FMJ Ball projectiles at 1,400 ft/sec or 0.22 cal, 17-grain fragment simulated projectile (FSP) at 2100 ft/sec with an areal density of less than 2.3 pounds per square foot. More importantly, Frontier's material costs less than one-tenth of the price of the current aramid/phenolic armor materials.
With the low cost nature of Frontier's armors and
ballistic panels, the Army can afford to provide better protection to
more soldiers to enhance survivability without sacrificing
mobility and agility.
