Advanced MDO Film Stretching Capabilities for Innovative, High Performance MDO Films With over 20 years of experience in mDO film stretching and extensive expertise in plastic materials, we are equipped with a state-of-the-art MDO film stretching line to meet your needs for high performance MDO films.

What Is the MDO Film stretching process?

image The Machine Direction Orientation (MDO) process typically consists of a series of preheat rolls that bring the film to a desired draw temperature, followed by a slow draw roll operating at a lower speed, and a fast draw roll running at a higher speed to stretch the film. Annealing rolls are positioned after drawing to allow stress relaxation before the film cools.

The draw ratio is primarily determined by the speed differential between the slow and fast draw rolls; however, additional pre-draw stretching from the preheat rolls can also contribute to the final draw ratio. An optimal MD system features independently driven rollers with precise temperature control, enabling flexibility in adjusting the draw path and fine-tuning process parameters for different materials and performance targets.

Benefits Of MDO Films

The Key Benefits of MDO films are:
  • Improved Mechanical Properties: Higher stiffness, rigidity, and strength in the machine direction of films for package weight reduction
  • Better Barrier Properties To Increase Shelf Life And Improve Freshness: Lower moisture and/or oxygen permeation rates help eliminate the need for multilayer films, improving recyclability and supporting sustainability goals
  • Sustainability: Most MDO films are 100% recyclable
  • Enhanced Printability: Superior film flatness improves printability and lowers cost
  • Lower product Cost: Potentially lowers material usage and reduces transportation costs, leading to overall cost savings
  • Versatility: MDO films can be tailored with variable mechanical and optical properties, making them adaptable for diverse uses
  • Novel Film Structures: Can form microcavities in the MDO film and the cavity size can be controlled through resin compositions and/or film stretching processes for applications such as diaper barrier films, battery separator films, etc.
  • Modular Design:  The high mechanical properties enabled by the MDO process support improved packaging formats - such as stand-up pouches - allowing for reduced material usage, lighter product weight, and more sustainable packaging solutions

Superior MDO Film Stretching Capability

This MDO Line is Specifically Designed To have super-high torque capabilities, allowing thicker sheet stretching, even at ambient temperature
  • Independently driven with independent speed control for all rollers and with a customizable draw path
  • Two stretching stages with adjustable stretching gaps up to 10 inches
  • Inlet sheet width up to 45 inches and inlet linear speed up to 30 feet/minute
  • The roller temperature could reach 350F and is equipped with additional IR heaters in the second draw stage to boost drawing temperatures
This MDO Line was also designed for various plastic materials, including PE, PP, PET, Nylon, High Performance Engineering Plastics, etc.
This Advanced MDO line is one of few MDO film production lines in the world that can perform compounding, sheet Co-extrusion and MDO film stretching in either one single setup or multiple step setup
  • Compounding - Allows for the fine tuning of resin compositions to optimize the final MDO performance
  • Sheet Extrusion - Can achieve very high surface quality and exceptional thickness uniformity films to ensure final quality of the MDO films.
  • Co-extrusion capability - capable of producing three-layer films to enhance the properties of final MDO films
  • MDO Film Stretching - Can stretch the films efficiently and effectively to attain uniform and high quality MDO films by achieving the desired draw ratios and meeting performance requirements
  • All three processes can be run separately (off - line), or simultaneously (in-line), depending upon process needs
